NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – No, it’s not an accident that the “love” sculpture recently installed in Union Square is missing an E.
The sculpture, which will sit on Union Square Park’s center lawn for six months, is intentionally missing the E to signify “egoless love,” and park goers are invited to fill in the missing letter themselves. It’s fittingly titled “Love-Ego=LOV.”
The sculpture is nearly eight feet tall and 21 feet wide, with three free-standing letters made of plywood colored bright green, yellow and pink. Though it's been up since May, the Department of Parks and Recreation and Union Square Partnership on Wednesday officially unveiled the sculpture and explained its meaning
The sculpture was specifically timed around the upcoming presidential election, to “counterbalance the divisive rhetoric” of campaign season and encourage unity and love without ego, organizers said.

The bright, unfinished word is paired with a miniature garden and a performance series that started in May at Union Square, organizers said. Another performance will take place at the garden on June 20, with more public programming on Thursdays throughout June and July.
“Creating ‘Love-Ego=LOV’ has been a deeply personal exploration of unity in the lively tapestry of our urban NYC environment,” said the sculpture's artist, Pasha Radetzki. “This project represents my journey as an artist and a first-generation American to find connection and collaboration in my new home.”
