ERODE

: In a recent development,

forest officials

in the

Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve

(STR) have successfully captured a large

leopard

responsible for the killing of numerous

farm animals

a month prior.
The incident occurred when the leopard infiltrated a cattle shed belonging to

Bagyalakshmi

, located within the Thalavadi forest range under the STR. The predator claimed the lives of "six goats, 20 poultry birds, two calves of a cow and five dogs."
Following a complaint lodged by Bagyalakshmi, the forest officials strategically placed a

cage

near her plot a few days ago.

The villagers were alerted to the presence of the leopard when they heard its distinctive sounds and discovered it trapped inside the cage. They promptly notified the forest personnel, who arrived at the scene to assess the situation.
The captured leopard was subsequently transported by the forest officials to a remote area within the forest, where it was safely released back into its natural habitat. This successful operation has brought relief to the local community, who had been grappling with the loss of their livestock and pets due to the leopard's predatory activities.
