Sensex, Nifty tumble as Middle East tensions spook D-Street investors

Benchmark stock market indices fell sharply on Monday amid rising tensions in the Middle East after Iran’s retaliatory attack on Israel over the weekend.

Investors are worried that the development could spark a wider regional conflict.

The S&P BSE Sensex was down 644.52 points at 73,600.38 at 9.20 am, while the NSE Nifty50 tanked 186.80 points to 22,332.60.

The broader market indices also fell sharply as a result.
