The Election Commission has ordered re-polling in eight booths in Arunachal Pradesh, where incidents of violence and EVM damage were reported during the simultaneous polling for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections which were held on April 19.

The state's Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Liken Koyu was quoted as saying by news agency PTI that the poll body declared the polling in the eight booths as void and ordered fresh elections on April 24 from 6 am to 2 pm.

According to the election body, re-polling will be held in Sario in Bameng Assembly constituency in East Kameng district, Longte Loth in Nyapin assembly in Kurung Kumey, Bogne, Molom booths in Rumgong assembly constituency in Siang district, Dingser, Bogiya Siyum, Jimbari and Lengi polling booths in Nacho constituency in Upper Subansiri district.

The polling was held on April 19 for 50 Assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Supporters of two candidates clashed near a polling station in Bameng constituency in East Kameng district on the day of polling. Incidents of EVM damage were also reported at three polling stations in East Kameng, Kurung Kumey and Upper Subansiri districts during the elections. The machines were then replaced and polling was resumed.
