Parineeti Chopra: 'Chamkila and wife Amarjot are Gods to us'

Parineeti Chopra, in an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, spoke about how Amar Singh Chamkila and wife Amarjot are 'Gods' to them. She also revealed what she would ask Amarjot if she met her in a parallel universe. Parineeti played the role of Amar Singh Chamkila's wife, Amarjot, in director Imtiaz Ali's film based on the life of the singer. She received overwhelming responses for her exceptional performance from all quarters.

For the unaware, Chamkila’s wife, Amarjot, also sang beside him at his concerts. Both Chamkila and Amarjot were shot dead in 1988 at the height of their popularity.

Speaking to IndiaToday.in, Parineeti spoke about how she would react if she met Amarjot in a parallel universe. Totally overwhelmed at this idea, Parineeti said, “I can’t even think. They (Chamkila and Amarjot) are Gods to us. I am getting goosebumps even thinking about it. I think, honestly, Amarjot ji and Chamkila were true revolutionaries. They were truly serving India, serving their audiences, not thinking about their safety, knowing that perhaps they were going to meet their death because of this. But they didn’t care. They lived and really performed and only cared about their audiences.”

Parineeti added that she would just seek Amarjot’s blessings and added, “I would probably just touch her feet and just take that from her and be able to live with that confidence and live your life the way you want to live it. That, I think, is a big thing about Chamkila and Amarjot ji. They didn’t succumb to the pressure. Life killed them for doing it, but they didn’t succumb and stuck to their conviction.”
