NJ Transit starts selling train tickets ahead of service restart

NEW JERSEY (PIX11) – Commuters will soon be able to buy train tickets ahead of NJ Transit restarting rail service after it reached a tentative deal with its engineers' union.

Train tickets will start being sold at 10 p.m. on Monday for travel on Tuesday, May 20, the agency wrote on X. The strike started at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, when negotiations between NJ Transit and the Brotherhood Of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen fell through.

Around 350,000 riders who use NJ Transit daily were affected by the three-day strike, according to the agency. NJ Transit offered park-and-ride services and extra buses, but was only able to increase the capacity of buses by 20%.

The strike cost NJ Transit about $4 million a day, according to officials.

Tickets are available to purchase online, through the NJ Transit app, on-board trains and at ticket offices and vending machines in stations.
