QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) – Watch out NYC, there are three new adorable bears in town.
Three Andean bear cubs born at the Queens Zoo in January are finally old enough to make their public debut.
“Since birth, they have been cared for by their mother in the birthing den, and the cubs have now reached the age when they are able to venture outdoors,” said a representative of the Wildlife Conservation Society.
The trio includes one female, which could grow to weigh around 200 pounds, and two males, which will grow to around 340 pounds. The bears are known by their white or cream markings around their eyes, muzzle and chest.

Andean bears, commonly known as spectacled bears, are typically born one or two at a time, making these already rare cubs even more special, according to a representative of WCS.
Andean bear populations have quickly declined in recent decades and it is only speeding up, according to WCS. These newborn cubs are three of eight born at the Queens Zoo since 1995 as part of a breeding program to protect the species’ future.
The Prospect Park Zoo, which recently opened after storm damage, also got some new friends this year – rare species of deer and a female baboon born during the closure.
