GUWAHATI:
Voting
is underway in peaceful manner in right from valley to hills and urban to remote inaccessible areas across five Lok Sabha seats in Assam, one in Tripura and 13 assembly segments in one seat in Manipur.
People were seen standing in queue right from early in the morning.
Out of five parliamentary seats in Assam where polls are underway, two falls in
Barak valley
and three falls in
Brahmaputra valley
.
Union home minister
Amit Shah
on his X handle posted on Friday: "I urge the people of the state to vote for the formation of a government that can continue the successes that Assam has already achieved in preventing illegal immigration and ensuring peace and progress."
Meanwhile, Assam CM Himanta Biswajit Sarma also urged every citizen to vote in large numbers. "Your vote is precious and will shape the direction of Bharat in the years to come. First caste vote, then do breakfast," he writes on X.
Congress sitting MP Pradyut Bordoloi, who is contesting from Nagaon Lok Sabha seat against BJP candidate Suresh Bora and AIUDF' Aminul Islam, reached polling station to cast his vote.
Meanwhile, isolated places in Barak valley is experiencing light to moderate rains and as a result, polling is yet to begin at some polling stations.
