Gold worth Rs 85 lakh found in Chennai airport lavatory

CHENNAI: Customs officers at

Chennai airport

seized 1.25 kg of gold -- worth Rs 85 lakh – which was found in a

lavatory

at the arrival lounge of the international terminal.
Housekeeping staffers noticed a parcel in a dustbin in the lavatory and alerted the CISF personnel.
The parcel was scanned to check if it had any explosive substance. CISF personnel found gold hidden in it and handed it over to customs officials for further investigation.

CCTV footage showed a passenger, who covered his face, leaving the parcel in the dustbin.
