NAGPUR: A fire broke out in a

jewellery shop

located in the bustling Sarafa Bazaar of the city on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the destruction of property worth Rs 6 lakh. Despite the severity of the blaze,

no injuries

were reported, said NMC fire officials.
The NMC's

fire and emergency services

department reported that the fire started at approximately 12:04 pm at V K Jwellers, a building with a ground floor and two additional storeys, situated in Bapurao Galli, Sarafa Bazaar.

Upon receiving the information, a fire tender from the nearby Lakadganj fire station promptly arrived at the scene. It took the

firefighters

around an hour to extinguish the flames, which caused damage to "two air conditioners, two laptops and old furnitures." However, officiating station officer Dilip Chavhan confirmed that no jewellery was harmed in the incident. Initial investigations suggest that the fire was caused by a short circuit.
The Itwari area, known for its narrow lanes and high population density, posed a challenge for the firefighters. The prompt response from the fire department was crucial in preventing a potentially catastrophic event, as the shops in the area are closely situated next to each other.
