Volkswagen will launch its maiden electric vehicle (EV) in India, the Volkswagen ID.4, in the fourth quarter of the calendar year (CY) 2024, according to our sources.
The Volkswagen ID.4 will enter the Indian market as a completely built-up (CBU) model and will be initially available in a single configuration.
For reference, the Volkswagen ID.4 gets multiple powertrain options, including single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive, in the international markets. The EV has a claimed range of up to 480km on a single full charge.
At present, the German carmaker offers models like the Virtus mid-size sedan, Taigun mid-size SUV and the Tiguan premium SUV, in India.
Volkswagen's domestic sales increased 8% to nearly 43,700 units in CY23 from around 40,600 units in CY22. While the metro cities contributed approximately 65% to the sales, the Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets chipped in with the remaining 35%.
Kick - The Volkswagen ID.4 will initially take the CBU route to enter the Indian market.
