THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: DIG R Nishanthini seeks report on the alleged lapses occurred in the incident in which a person, who bought thousands of
nitrazepam tablets
using
forged prescriptions
, received bail after cops failed to charge adequate sections when he was produced before a court.
Sanjeev, 24, of Puliyarakonam at Vilappil was arrested while trying to buy the tablets from a pharmacy in Thiruvananthapuram.
The accused bought thousands of strips of tablets from hundreds of medical shops in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts till he was caught a few days ago. He minted lakhs by selling a strip (actual cost Rs 50) at Rs 500 in black market.
Despite this,
Venjaramoodu police
charged him under bailable sections of IPC 465 for forgery and 471 for fraudulent use of a forged document. But sections under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act were avoided in the FIR.
DIG has sought a report from the station house officer of Venjaramoodu station on the lapses that occurred.
"An expert opinion will be taken on it and adequate sections will be added," said Nishanthini. Pharmacies would not sell nitrazepam tablets without a prescription from a medical practitioner. Due to this the accused forged the seal and signature of a doctor to create the prescription.
