The Delhi government has taken a significant step towards ensuring the safety of students in schools by establishing a dedicated Child Safety Monitoring Committee. This committee has been tasked with overseeing the adherence to the 'Minimum Standards of School Safety,' which encompasses a comprehensive checklist to evaluate school safety measures.

“In pursuance of a Delhi High Court order, a Child Safety Monitoring Committee has been constituted to monitor the implementation of minimum standards of school safety. In view of this, the heads of all schools in Delhi are hereby directed to fill out the checklist and keep it ready to facilitate the visiting inspection team,” the circular from the Directorate of Education said.

To facilitate this process, all school administrators in Delhi have been instructed to complete the safety checklist and have it readily available for inspection by the designated teams.

INVOLVEMENT OF EDUCATION OFFICIALS

Furthermore, the deputy directors of education (districts) have been specifically instructed to ensure the presence of the respective DDE (Zone) officials during school inspections within their jurisdictions.

The circular from the Directorate of Education emphasised the seriousness with which the Delhi government is addressing the issue of school safety, particularly in response to judicial mandates.

By establishing a dedicated monitoring committee and emphasising the active involvement of education officials at various levels, the government is taking proactive measures to ensure a safe learning environment for all students in the city.
