Crash at White House perimeter gate, driver dead

NEW DELHI: A

fatal incident

occurred at the

White House

on Saturday night when a

driver

crashed a vehicle into an outer perimeter gate of the complex.
The US Secret Service reported that the crash took place just before 10.30 pm (local time) and the driver was found dead inside the vehicle, according to an AP report.
In response to the incident, security protocols were activated, but the Secret Service confirmed that there was no threat posed to the White House itself.

The identity of the driver has not been released at this time.
The Secret Service stated that they will continue to investigate the incident. However, the fatal crash aspect of the investigation will be handled by the

Washington Metropolitan Police Department
