Central Park's Great Lawn to reopen, scheduled to host Global Citizen Festival

1 year ago 26

CENTRAL PARK, Manhattan (PIX11) – The Great Lawn in Central Park will reopen this Saturday, and it's already scheduled to host the Global Citizen Festival in September.

The area was closed earlier than usual last year following Tropical Storm Ophelia. New York City Councilwoman Gale Brewer wrote that "heavy rain, foot traffic, and machinery used for staging destroyed" the grass in a letter to Mayor Eric Adams.

A third of the lawn was ruined and needed to be reseeded, according to the Central Park Conservancy.

The festival's board of directors paid for all the repairs. This year's festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The lineup of performers is expected to be announced in the coming months.
