NEW DELHI:

Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj

on Tuesday said BJP gave tickets to "outsiders" to contest from East Delhi who always remained unavailable while AAP had fielded a local candidate this time.
Addressing a corner meeting in

Shahdara

assembly segment of

East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency

to rally support for party candidate Kuldeep Kumar, Bharadwaj said AAP had given him ticket for his hard work, honesty and dedication.

"Kumar has been made the candidate for East Delhi after careful consideration because he is young, resilient, hardworking, honest and educated. I urge you to vote for Kuldeep Kumar to make him the MP from East Delhi," Bharadwaj said, adding that as a councillor and then as an MLA, Kumar had worked hard in the Kondli assembly area.
The minister also said people should not fall for BJP's "tactics of changing candidates" in every election. "Do not be deceived by BJP this time. For the past 10 years, people have given a chance to outsiders who contested and won elections but never returned after winning and did not fulfil their duties," Bharadwaj said.

Delhi Assembly speaker and Shahdara MLA Ram Niwas Goel also attended AAP's Sankalp Sabha.
Addressing the gathering, Kumar called upon people to "end BJP's dictatorship" and free Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal from jail. Listing the works done by AAP govt in Delhi, he said people were provided with free electricity, water, education and health while women were given the facility to travel free in public buses. "Today, CM Arvind Kejriwal is in jail. I request everyone to vote for us to bring him out," Kuldeep said.

"Ask the people of my constituency. If I have worked in my area, then vote for me; if not, then don't vote for me," he added.
In a separate event, AAP's legal cell staged a protest against the "unjust arrest" of Kejriwal by forming a human chain at Connaught Place. Led by INDIA bloc candidate Somnath Bharti, several lawyers from across Delhi participated in the event.
Bharti, an AAP MLA, condemned the arrest and labelled it as "evidence of a dictatorial atmosphere" in Delhi and the nation. "We are trying to convey to the public the way BJP has adopted an undemocratic attitude and picked up Kejriwal on March 21 unconstitutionally even after the announcement of elections," the New Delhi candidate said. "We want to convey this message to every household that this election is to save the Constitution, democracy and the country," he added.
AAP functionaries said the protest was peaceful and drew a good response from people.
