An emergency cabinet meeting called by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is currently underway at his residence. According to the information received from the Chief Minister's Office, the meeting was called to discuss the electricity subsidy being given in Delhi. A major decision regarding the electricity subsidy to be given in the coming financial year is possible.
On March 4, Delhi's Finance Minister, Atishi, proposed a budget of Rs 3,353 crore for the Energy Department in this financial year. There are 58.86 lakh domestic electricity consumers in Delhi and 68.33 per cent of these consumers benefit from the subsidy.
While presenting the budget, Finance Minister Atishi said that in 2023, zero electricity bills were issued to about 3.4 crore consumers.
According to the data provided by the Delhi Government, 40.22 lakh domestic electricity consumers are presently getting the benefit of electricity subsidy from the Delhi Government. Atishi had announced the continuation of this subsidy scheme in the budget.
The Aam Aadmi Party government presented its tenth budget on March 4. This was the last budget of the Aam Aadmi Party government before the Delhi Assembly elections to be held next year. An announcement regarding Lok Sabha elections will also be made soon, so there is a possibility that in today's cabinet meeting, a decision to provide extra relief regarding the subsidy will be taken.
