Apple is tipped to launch Mac Mini with M4 chip in late 2024

Apple is expected to launch the next generation of Mac mini later this year, but leaks of the upcoming device have started appearing online. A report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggests that Apple could bypass an M3 iteration of the Mac mini as it is aiming for a substantial update featuring M4 chips later this year.

Gurman's insights, outlined in his newsletter, highlight Apple's probable decision to forgo an M3 refresh for the Mac mini. The last update to the Mac mini, featuring M2 and M2 Pro chips, was unveiled in January 2023, boasting additional Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI 2.1 compatibility for M2 Pro configurations, Wi-Fi 6E support, and Bluetooth 5.3.

Previously, Gurman hinted at Apple's plans to introduce new Mac mini variants equipped with M4 and M4 Pro chips "between the end of 2024 and early 2025." However, recent updates indicate a potential arrival by the end of this year, leaving little room for M3 models in the interim.

This strategic move mirrors Apple's approach with the iMac, which bypassed the M2 chip altogether, opting instead for a substantial performance boost with the M3 chip late last year. With the upcoming M4 chip series, the Mac mini could get a big CPU performance boost compared to its predecessors featuring the M2 series. Additionally, rumours suggest that the M4 chips will integrate a faster Neural Engine.

As anticipation builds for Apple's forthcoming Mac mini refresh, eyes are set on the end of the year for potential revelations of the highly anticipated M4-powered models.
