A case was filed against the son of a circle inspector in Andhra Pradesh's Ongole for allegedly trying to cheat during a prelims examination.

Siva Shankar, the police officer's son, was appearing in the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) exam for Group 1 posts, held on Sunday, March 17.

He allegedly carried his iPhone inside the examination hall and was using it to scan the question paper.

This was witnessed by another candidate, following which, the authorities were alerted. However, Siva refused to disclose his phone's password and the authorities were unable to retrieve any information.

Siva Shankar has been booked for malpractice, highlighting the seriousness of the offence, said Ongole Deputy Superintendent of Police, M Kishore Babu.

It remains unclear how Siva was able to sneak his phone inside the examination hall, despite security measures like metal detectors and other checks in place.
