floods in Assam
and Manipur continued to claim lives as authorities reported eight more flood-related deaths on Friday, raising the overall fatality count to 53. The

induced by severe
cyclone Remal
also inundated vast swathes of land and affected at least five lakh people in the two northeastern states.
PM Modi took stock of the prevailing flood situation in Assam, where six deaths were reported, and other northeastern states while assuring all possible support .
He posted on his X handle that the central govt is continuously monitoring the situation and officials are working on the ground to assist those affected.

in Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Mizoram, wrote on his X handle that he spoke to chief ministers of the respective states and took stock of the situation. He promised them of all possible help.
Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in its daily flood report said three deaths occurred in Cachar, two in Hailakandi and one in West Karbi Anglong districts. Two of the six deceased were children. One child's death was reported in Cachar and one in Hailakandi.
As of Friday, Cachar in Barak valley was the worst-hit district where over 15,000 people have been affected, followed by over 5,000 in Hojai district and over 3,000 in Karimganj district. The affected districts are Karbi Anglong, Dhemaji, Hojai, Cachar, Karimganj, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Hailakandi, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong West, Dima-Hasao. Over 28,000 affected people are currently taking shelter across 187 relief camps opened in the state.
The devastating effects of cyclone Remal resulted in floods and landslides in Manipur, where two more lives were lost, raising the total number of fatalities to five.
