BENGALURU: Former CM and senior BJP functionary DV
Sadananda Gowda
, who was expected to reveal his next political step on Tuesday, postponed the decision by a day. Peeved after being overlooked for the BJP
ticket
to seek re-election from Bangalore North constituency, Sadananda was scheduled to host a
press conference
on Tuesday to unveil his plans.
“I will share everything tomorrow [Wednesday] including my views on the issue,” he told reporters.
It is said Sadananda postponed a decision after requests from two BJP functionaries from Delhi. They urged him not to rush into any decision. Sources say he was offered the Chikkaballapur ticket which he declined.
BJP state president BY Vijayendra also spoke to Sadananda and appealed to him not to make any drastic choices, while other senior party members also reportedly reached out to Gowda, offering potential future roles.
Sadananda met with office bearers of
Karnataka Vokkaligara Sangha
, engaging in discussions for an hour. He is said to have sought their support if he quits BJP, as speculated.
D Hanumanthaiah, president of the Sangha, promised the community will support him while lauding his contributions to both govt and party. He questioned the party's decision not to grant him a ticket.
Speculation is rife that
Congress
has offered the former Union minister the
Mysore Lok Sabha
ticket where he could face BJP’s Yaduveer. The move is seen as a strategic attempt to field a Vokkaliga, aiming to counter Yaduveer's influence across communities, stemming from his royal lineage. Also, the former CM’s wife hails from Kushalnagar in Kodagu, a part of the Mysore seat.
