As Mukhtar Ansari died of cardiac arrest on Thursday night, the family of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai, who was killed by the gangster-politician, said justice had prevailed. They also said that God had made its decision to decide Mukhtar Ansari's fate.
In 2005, Krishnanand Rai was on his way back home after inaugurating a cricket tournament when his cavalcade was attacked. Krishnanand Rai and his six aides were shot dead with AK-47 bullets. In April 2023, a court in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur convicted and sentenced Mukhtar Ansari to 10 years imprisonment for Krishnanand Rai's murder.
In an exclusive interview with Aaj Tak TV/India Today TV, Krishnanand Rai's son, Piyush Rai, said the family was jubilant and called Mukhtar Ansari a "tyrant".
"We are very happy. It is Baba Gorakhnath's grace. He (Mukhtar Ansari) used to commit crimes while staying in the jails of Punjab. But after coming to Uttar Pradesh, he got justice. He was a tyrant and now it's over," he said.
"God has considered his fate in the month of Ramzan," he added.
Piyush Rai hit out at the Opposition over their reactions on the death of Mukhtar Ansari. "The Opposition parties wants to do politics. They are looking for an issue and are supporting a criminal," he said.
Voicing similar sentiments, Krishnanand Rai's wife, Alka Rai, said, "We have got justice today. It is a matter of happiness for all the families who have been ruined that they have got justice at last."
