Volkswagen ID.3 GTX EV performance hatch revealed: Gets RWD setup with 326 hp

has revealed the performance-oriented version of the VW ID.3 called ID.3 GTX. The ID.3

GTX

is essentially an

EV

alternative to the popular Golf GTI and gets a bigger battery, powerful motor, improved dynamics, cosmetic changes, tuned chassis and suspension. The EV will go on sale in the European markets later this year with expected prices starting from £40,000 (about Rs 42 lakh at current exchange rates).

The ID.3 GTX will be powered by Volkswagen’s latest APP550 electric motor paired with a 79 kWh battery pack.

The motor is placed on the rear axle which puts out 282 hp of power and 545 Nm of torque. There’s also the GTX Performance variant which puts out 322 hp and has a claimed 0-100 kph sprint in 5.6 seconds, which makes this VW’s quickest-accelerating EV to date.

The standard GTX can spring from 0-100 in 6 seconds and has a top speed of 180 kph, the GTX performance has 200 kph. In comparison, the regular ID.3 gets a 77 kWh battery pack and the motor puts out 204 hp of power. Talking about the charging, the ID.3 GTX has 175kW DC charging capability and can charge from 10-80 per cent in under 30 minutes.

VW says that it has made few changes to the chassis and suspension, the EV features retuned steering that has been configured to offer “greater precision”, and the Performance model has a new Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system that uses more sensors to detect wheel movement to improve ride and handling.

Talking about the design, as mentioned previously the GTX gets few cosmetic updates over the standard model. The EV features a GTX-specific front bumper design and it also gets new LED ‘arrowhead’ daytime running lights. It also gets aero-optimised 20-inch alloy wheels with a diffuser and spoiler at the rear. Moving inside, the EV features a sporty cabin with sporty bucket seats and contrasting red stitching on the seats and on the dashboard.
