Updates and highlights from Indianapolis Colts minicamp practice No. 2

3 days ago 19

The Indianapolis Colts are back on the practice field on Wednesday for their second of three minicamp practices. Let's take a look at the latest updates and highlights from Wednesday's practice.

This year's minicamp practice on Day 2 will look different than what it did a year ago. Last offseason, as Shane Steichen described on Tuesday, the Colts did a walkthrough on Day 2 as they ramped up. But this year will be a full-go practice.

“I just think, obviously, you go through little details on what you need to get better," Steichen said, via Horseshoe Huddle. "I think, like last year, sudden-change situations for us, playing complementary football, we've got to put those guys in those situations. So, those are the things I studied and looked at that we need to get better at this year.”

Steichen added: “The practices will be a little different. You'll see some different things in practice."

#Colts OC Jim Bob Cooter said second-year WR AD Mitchell "has had an exciting start to the offseason."

Said Mitchell has been getting open and making catches. Next step for him is "a consistency thing."

Said he's done a really nice job and has been attacking it this spring.

#Colts STC Brian Mason says Spencer Shrader has "a little bit of a step up," but he considers the starting kicking job "definitely an open competition" between Shrader and UDFA Maddux Trujillo.

#Colts STC Brian Mason says Carlie Irsay-Gordon has sat in on several of his meetings, and he's worked with her more than any other member of the Irsay family. No surprise there given her football-centric role with the franchise.

Notes that Irsay-Gordon isn't a micromanager.

#Colts DC Lou Anarumo: "A lot of arrows up with Kenny (Moore II)."

Calls himself a big fan of Indy's veteran slot corner.

#Colts DC Lou Anarumo says CB Justin Walley has shown promise this spring, but then cracks a wry smile and says Walley had "a very teachable moment" in front of the team this morning. Wouldn't say what that teachable moment was but sounds like he's enjoyed bringing him along.
