UK-based gangster Kapil Sangwan claims he got Nafe Singh Rathee murdered

NEW DELHI: A day after TOI reported that gangster Jyoti Baba was questioned by police agencies in Tihar Jail in connection with Haryana INLD chief Nafe Singh Rathee's murder, his brother Kapil Sangwan, a UK-based gangster, claimed responsibility for the killing.

The two-time former Haryana legislator and one of his bodyguards were gunned down by assailants inside a moving car at Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar district on Sunday.

In a social media post, Sangwan claimed that the politician was a close associate of jailed gangster Manjeet Mahal, a rival of Sangwan.

'Rathee case contract killing, spotter was trailing target'

This will be the fate of whoever shakes hands with my enemy.

He backed Mahal in the murder of my brother-in-law and my friends," the post claimed.

The post added, "If someone supports my enemies, I will support their enemies and 50 bullets will await them. Everyone in Bahadurgarh knows how many people Nafe Singh killed and how much land he grabbed while he was in power. But no one was able to touch him because of his power."

"If police had been active during my brother-in-law and my friends' murders, I wouldn't have had to do this," Sangwan claimed.

Sangwan belongs to Najafgarh and has been using VoIP calls to make extortion demands from London, where he escaped using a forged passport procured from UP. Delhi Police has requested CBI's Interpol branch to issue a red corner notice (RCN) against the gangster.

Sources said, on Feb 26, multiple police teams had questioned jailed gangster Jyoti Baba in connection with the killing. "Jyoti was grilled for several hours along with another gangster, Sandeep alias Kala Jathedi, inside Tihar jail," sources said.

Sources said it was a case of contract killing and there was a spotter trailing the target. The CCTV obtained by cops shows a shooter in the front seat of an i20 car talking to someone on the phone just before they ambushed the target near the railway track.

Jyoti operates with liquor barons of Haryana and Gujarat. He was arrested from Gujarat in 2020 by a Delhi Police team. Jyoti appeared on the crime scene as a minor with a murder in Gurgaon.

At age 19, he was involved in another murder - part of an ongoing gang-war in Bahadurgarh, Haryana - and absconded. He was subsequently arrested, put on trial and sentenced to life. After his conviction, his younger brother Kapil Sangwan took over command of his gang.
