Two persons were killed, and a woman was injured after being attacked by a bear in Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh. The incident has led to panic among Anakapalli village residents, who fear further attacks if the bear is not removed from the vicinity.
The victims, identified as CH Lokanadham and Laishetti Kumar, were attacked by the bear while they were on their way to a nearby park. A woman sustained critical injuries in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment.
Locals had previously raised concerns about the presence of bear cubs in the Uddanam area. They had demanded their relocation to a zoo. The residents of Uddanam have urged the government to take swift action and safety measures.
District forest officer Nisha Kumari said efforts were underway to track the movements of the bear. Kumari said compensation would be provided to the families of the deceased.
In 2022, three persons were killed after a bear attacked farmers working in cashew orchards in Kidisingi village under Vajrapukotturu Mandal.
