Two held with 4kg opium in Ambala

)-II of

Ambala

police arrested two men and recovered 4 kilogram (kg) opium from their possession on the National Highway (NH) 44 on Saturday, said Ambala superintendent of police (SP) Jashandeep Singh Randhawa on Monday.
The accused have been identified as

Jaspreet Singh

of Patiala district, Punjab and Ramjeet Ganjhu of Chatra district, Jharkhand. The SP said both the accused were produced before the court in Ambala and granted 6-day police remand.
On Saturday, CIA-II team received the tip-off that accused Jaspreet and Ramjeet would smuggle 4 kg opium on their Punjab number motorcycle and they would pass through NH-44 in Ambala Cantonment area.
“The police nabbed the suspects recovered 4 kg opium from their possession. A case was registered against both the accused under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Parao police station on Saturday”, said Ambala SP.

“Information was received that the accused persons were involved in smuggling opium from Jharkhand side to the region and further to Punjab. Jharkhand has cropped up as the main source of opium and charas, as a large quantity of these contrabands is coming from that side,” said SP Ambala Jashandeep Singh.
He said during the 6-day remand, in-depth interrogation and investigation will be done to ascertain the forward and backward linkages to this case.
