NEW DELHI: The govt has approved projects worth more than Rs 7,000 crore in last three months under the

Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan

(PM-JANMAN)

PM-JANMAN

focussed on holistic development of 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group across 19 states and one Union Territory in the country. An example of the outcomes being a

that has got

75 years after independence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Abhiyan on 'Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas' from Khunti on the birth anniversary of tribal icon Birsa Munda on November 15. The mission to be executed in convergence mode with concerned ministries is spread over three years and has a project outlay of Rs 24,000 crore.
“In the last 4 months, over 2 lakh Aadhaar cards, 5 lakh Ayushman cards, 50,000 Jan Dhan Accounts have been created,” the ministry of tribal affairs (MoTA) led by Union minister Arjun Munda said in a press statement. Also more than 5 lakh tribal families that got FRA pattas were given the benefit of PM Kisan Saman Nidhi.
Citing the case studies that reflect impact, MoTA shared that a tribal hamlet in Mysuru has got power connection 75 years after independence. The hamlet on the fringes of Hediyala range of Bandipur Tiger Reserve, without electricity for generations, recently got connected to the power grid of Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC).

According to the details shared by the ministry, while villages close to this hamlet had power connection but a portion of the tribal hamlet of the Jenu Kuruba community at Kothnahalli Colony abutting the forest periphery was left out. These 20 families lived in darkness all these decades and despite many requests from the community power lines were not drawn to fix the issue. Finally they now have access to electricity.
Similarly the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) ensured supply of electricity to vulnerable tribal communities in remote areas within just 12 days covering 2,395 tribal homes.
Another example is of Bhagchand Adivasi from Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh who became the owner of first house under PM-JANMAN that was constructed in one month after the first instalment of Rs 50,000 was released to 1 lakh beneficiaries of Awas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY - G) through DBT by PM Modi on January 15. An amount of Rs. 2.39 lakh is provided for construction of the house. The houses include a toilet, porch and open area.
