Theatres

saw a slow start to 2024, with not many big-ticket releases. Even though Fighter, Shaitaan and Crew seemed promising and clocked in good numbers due to their star cast, the numbers weren’t enough to give the industry a reason to celebrate. Stakeholders and industry experts from Kolkata share their thoughts on the possibility of the numbers going up, and films bringing in good business.
Talking about how June brought in better times with it, Navin Choukhani of

Navina Cinema

says, “Considering the films, be it regional or in other languages, that are lined up for release, predicts a bumper period at the box-office.

There are big releases on and around Independence Day, Durga Puja and Diwali, but there are also many high-potential films due for release during the non-festive period too.”
Adding to this,

Arijit Dutta

, Priya Cinema says, “Kalki has been one of the very few promising releases this year, and the first half of this year, has otherwise been quite disastrous. As an exhibitor, I can only be optimistic about the next six months as a lot of good content is about to be released.”
However, with no SRK or

Salman Khan films

lined up this year, Sourav Bose of Basusree is apprehensive of what is to come. “We are banking a lot on Pushpa 2: The Rule This Time. Also with the major festive period coming up, we are expecting to see people filling up seats at theatres,” he concludes.
