Dileep’s latest release '
Thankamani
' continues to underperform at the box office. The film directed by
Ratheesh Reghunandan
, featuring
Dileep
in the lead role was released amidst heightened expectations. However, the latest box office numbers suggests that the film has failed to struck a chord with the audience. According to a report by Sacnilk, on the 12th day, March 18, which was also the second Monday for the film, it only collected, as less as 1 lakh. The film which was released on March 7, has only earned an estimated net collection of Rs 2.3 crore, yet. The numbers are concerning, especially at a time when films like ‘Manjummel Boys’ and ‘Premalu’ continues it triumphant run at the cinemas.
Starring Dileep, ‘Thankamani’ also has
Neeta Pillai
, Pranitha Subhash, Manoj K Jayan, Siddique, Sudev Nair,
Malavika
Menon, and Ajmal Amir, in pivotal roles. The film received mixed reviews from the audience on the opening day and its collection went downhill since then.
ETimes rated the film 2.5 out of 5, and wrote, “Ratheesh Reghunandan's Thankamani, as a creative adaptation of a real life incident, works to some extent, but poor writing and execution in some places, jarring dialogues and also, the number of unnecessary characters smuggled into the plot makes it a poorly conceived product. The story follows the life of Abel Joshua Mathen, a Gulf returnee in Idukki's Thankamani. The infamous Thankamani incident takes place while Abel is home for a holiday. His family gets dragged into it and what follows after forms the crux of the film.”
