An FIR was filed against three teenagers for allegedly posting a death threat on Instagram against a Superintendent of Police in Tamil Nadu. However, the trio were let go by the Trichy SP, Varun Kumar, with a warning, considering their future.
Last week, an Instagram post showing a picture of SP Varun Kumar with the caption “several heads will be blown by Komban Brothers” went viral.
Special teams were constituted, and they detained three teenagers behind the post-- aged 16, 17, and 18.
A case was filed against them for assertions prejudicial to national integration (IPC 153-B), statements conducive to public mischief (IPC 505-2), and Section 66 of the IT Act.
However, SP Varun Kumar called the teens along with their families, counselled them, and let them go, considering their future.
“You have videos of Abdul Kalam and several motivational videos which you could have shared instead of being involved in such activities. You will get only what you search for. If you search for knowledge, you will get knowledge. Don’t get inspired by bad things. The problem is that this generation believes anything that comes as an Instagram reel,” stated Varun Kumar, who then let them go with a warning, considering their future.
Another 17-year-old boy, who is also allegedly involved in the Instagram threat, is absconding, and the police are on his lookout.
