JERSEY CITY, N.J. (PIX11) – Jersey City’s Grove Street PATH station now has tap-and-go turnstiles, according to Port Authority.
TAPP-enabled turnstiles, which accept contactless payment from smartphones, credit and debit cards, were installed Wednesday at the station’s main and Marin Boulevard entrances, according to a spokesperson for Port Authority.
It’s the seventh station to get tap-and-go turnstiles after Newark Penn Station, Harrison, Journal Square, Hoboken, 33rd Street and World Trade Center all got the handy payment option.
And since the first installation, phone and card taps have accounted for over one million PATH payments, Port Authority said in late March.
“These TAPP numbers show we’ve tapped into something our riders truly appreciate, giving them more flexibility and more freedom in how they pay their fare,” said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. “We’re excited to bring this technology to the rest of the system in the near future.”
Restoration work is also underway at Grove Street station to give the stop new paint, floor tiles, lighting and restored columns.
