Ingenuity knows no bounds, especially in India, where 'jugaad' solutions are a daily occurrence. A video showing an example of ‘jugaad’ has gone viral on Instagram featuring a unique modification to an auto-rickshaw in Tamil Nadu. The innovation? A cleverly positioned pipe acting as a personalised cooling system for the driver.

Shared by Instagram user Ramez, the video shows the auto-rickshaw driver sitting beside a pipe attached to the front part of the vehicle.

The video has gone viral with over 605k views and tons of reactions. According to some, the pipe was put there to show the ‘Venturi effect’.

The Venturi effect refers to the principle that when a fluid moves through a narrowed space, its velocity increases, causing a corresponding decrease in pressure. In this case, the pipe functions as a miniature Venturi tube, directing airflow towards the driver. As the air enters the narrowed pipe, its velocity increases, reducing the pressure and drawing in cooler air from the surroundings, thereby generating a cooling effect for the driver.

Now, we don’t know if the driver thought all about these scientific reasons before installing the pipe. What we do know, this is the perfect example of ‘jugaad’.
