James Gunn

assembled the cast of his highly-anticipated '

Superman: Legacy

' in Atlanta for a table read, officially kickstarting the production of the DC superhero movie.
The acclaimed writer-director took to his Instagram handle to share the big update with his fans and expressed his excitement on working with the stellar lineup. "After the table read with the #Superman cast," he captioned the post and added the list of characters namely, "Eve, Mr.

Terrific, Superman/Clark, Otis, Lex, producer Peter Safran, Jimmy, Metamorpho, Lois, Hawkgirl, me, Guy, The Engineer all together for the first time! What a wonderful day."

The photo saw

David Corenswet

, the lead star set to play the iconic superhero, Superman/Clark, with his arm around

Nicholas Hoult

, sporting a strikingly shaven head. The actor assumes the role of

Lex Luthor

, Superman's notorious adversary.

The photo also features

Rachel Brosnahan

, who is portraying journalist Lois Lane, aka Superman's love interest alongside Isabela Mercad as Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillon as Guy Gardner, among other cast members.
According to 'Variety', producer and DC co-chief Peter Safran said the film would focus "on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned."

Reports state that the film will also feature a cameo from Milly Alcock as Supergirl. The actress will make her debut in the film before moving on to feature in her stand-alone story.
The news that 'Superman: Legacy' will include superheroes other than the last son of Krypton is a strong indication that Gunn intends to re-launch the DC cinematic universe as a fully-formed entity, rather than re-build it one superhero at a time.
The film is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025.
