On a remarkable day for India at the World Para Athletics Championships, reigning Paralympics champion Sumit Antil successfully defended his F64 javelin throw world title. Antil, who previously clinched gold in the Tokyo Paralympics and the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships, achieved a top throw of 69.50 meters.
His compatriot, Sandeep, secured the bronze medal in the same event with a throw of 60.41 meters.
In the T63 high jump, Tokyo Paralympics silver medalist Thangavelu Mariyappan set a championship record with a jump of 1.88 meters, earning him the gold medal. Earlier in the day, Ekta Bhyan excelled in the women's F51 club throw, securing the gold with a season's best throw of 20.12 meters. Fellow Indian competitor Kashish Lakra won the silver in the same event with a throw of 14.56 meters.
