MADIKERI
:
Sub-registrar Soumyalatha
, who is facing
Lokayukta inquiry
, has been
suspended
following an order by the
inspector general of registration
and
commissioner of stamps
BR Mamata on Saturday. The suspension comes after a trap was laid at the Lokayukta sub-registrar's office in March.
Kumar, a
property owner
, approached the
Lokayukta police
after the official allegedly demanded a bribe to transfer the khata of a property in Korangala village through a broker.
Kumar's three sisters wished to transfer the property to him. When Kumar met Soumyalatha for the purpose, the official demanded a medical certificate as one of his sisters was differently abled. After obtaining the certificate, Kumar approached the officer, who reportedly routed the work through a broker named Haridat. The broker demanded Rs 50,000 for the work. After agreeing to pay the bribe, Kumar lodged a complaint with Lokayukta police.
Lokayukta police laid a trap and caught the broker and his assistant in his office while receiving the bribe. The broker was detained and questioned.
In the suspension order, the commissioner stated that Soumyalatha has been suspended as there is a possibility of hindering proper investigation of the case.
