NEW DELHI: Advising against use of unfair means,

National Testing Agency

on Wednesday cautioned candidates that they can be penalised even after

post-exam data analysis

is done.
The agency, on the eve of the second session of the

Joint Entrance Examination-Main

(

JEE-Main

) beginning Thursday, said it will conduct post-exam video data analysis, as well as question-attempting logs to identify “mischievous collaborations”.

NTA will also use AI for remote biometric matching of candidates. It has already identified four cases of unfair means in post-exam data analysis from the JEE (Main) Session 1 conducted in Jan 2024.
The computer-based test for admission to engineering and architecture programmes in centrally-funded technical institutions will be conducted across 544 centres in 297 cities.

A total of 12.57 lakh candidates have registered for the test, of which 75% have already appeared in the Jan session. The test will be delivered from April 4 to April 9 for paper 1 (BE/BTech) in double shifts each day and April 12 for paper 2 (B Arch/B Planning).
NTA director general Subodh Kumar Singh said rigorous measures to deter

malpractices

and ensure the examination’s fairness, such as multi-stage verification,

biometric authentication

, e-KYC and frisking of candidates, invigilation staff and any other associated functionaries, has been put in place, adding that even, if a candidate goes for bio-break/toilet, he/she should undergo the mandatory frisking and biometric again.
Singh said that any attempt which compromises the sanctity of the exam “may lead to cancellation of the candidature and debarring the candidate for current year and in future from appearing in the exam and it invites the criminal proceedings/ strict action against the wrong-doer”.
NTA sources said security measures such as surprise visits by flying squads, deployment of full-time observers, utilisation of

AI tools

to identify discrepancies in candidates’ application details, matching of their biometrics and particulars remotely through AI and also by a physical thorough invigilation supervision, have been made to be put in place.
While during the examination, any candidate is subject to verification, biometric, frisking in view of the signal which may be flashed through AI tools, CCTV analysis and live streaming in the NTA’s command control room, Singh said, “NTA also conducts post-examination analysis of the responses of the treated group with respect to cheating behaviour associated with the exam by observational data, interesting statistical approaches etc. There may be use of non-intrusive technology to identify collaboration, the question attempting logs are also analysed to identify the suspicious similarities between submitted responses.”
