NEW DELHI:

Asitha Fernando

showcased an impressive performance, claiming figures of 4-34 as

Sri Lanka

bowled out

Bangladesh

for 178 in the second Test in

Chittagong

, securing a substantial lead of 353 runs in the first innings.
Opting not to enforce a follow-on, Sri Lanka found themselves struggling in their second innings, reaching 102-6 by stumps on the third day, extending their lead to 455 runs.

Despite the debutant pacer Hasan Mahmud's encouraging 4-51 for Bangladesh and Khaled Mahmud's contribution of 2-29,

Angelo Mathews

remained unbeaten on 39 alongside Prabath Jayasuriya, three not out. The duo aimed to bolster Sri Lanka's lead with support from the tail-enders.
Earlier, Lahiru Kumara,

Vishwa Fernando

, and Prabath Jayasuriya also made notable contributions, claiming two wickets each as Sri Lanka clinched nine wickets in two sessions, leaving the hosts struggling.

For Bangladesh, Zakir Hasan top-scored with 54, while Mominul Haque offered resistance with 33. However, Sri Lanka's bowlers managed to break through Bangladesh's resilience, with Asitha Fernando ending Mominul's resistance and wrapping up the innings by dismissing Khaled Ahmed.
In their second innings, Bangladesh faced further setbacks as Sri Lanka's bowlers continued to dominate. Asitha Fernando trapped Shakib Al Hasan leg-before and induced an edge from Liton Das, while Vishwa Fernando accounted for

Taijul Islam

's wicket.
Bangladesh lost wickets in clusters, with Shahadat Hossain and Mehidy Hasan falling to Lahiru Kumara and Prabath Jayasuriya, respectively.
In the first two days, Sri Lanka had amassed 531 runs, the highest Test total without any batsman scoring a century, further asserting their dominance in the series. Having won the first Test in Sylhet by 328 runs, Sri Lanka aimed to maintain their unbeaten record against Bangladesh in Test series.
