KOCHI: Rising
jaundice
cases amid soaring
temperature
causes huge concern among the
health workers
in
Ernakulam
. As many as 19 jaundice cases (
hepatitis A
) were reported in the last four days in the district.
Health authorities say the rise in cases is because of people having uncooked or half cooked food and refreshment summer drinks from hotels, restaurants and eateries on roadsides.
They warn people to avoid having food from outside houses this summer as
water scarcity
aggravates the situation. "People should be careful to have fully cooked food or beverage crops from outside this summer to avoid jaundice infection which is caused by contaminated water. It is best that one should carry a bottle of drinking water from your house when going out. It is good to have seasonal fruits to maintain good health during rising temperatures and follow a good lifestyle. They should be judicious in having food in the summer," said a medical officer in the district. If the disease is left untreated and the patient is suffering from comorbidities, jaundice will turn fatal.
The authorities warn communicable diseases will rise in the wake of rising temperatures and people have to more careful.
