NEW YORK (PIX11) – A tornado warning has been issued for parts of New Jersey amid severe thunderstorms expected in the area on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
The warning lasts through 1:15 p.m. for Hammonton, Mays Landing and Victory Lakes, the NWS posted on X.
A severe thunderstorm watch is also in effect through 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Here's everything you need to know about the expected thunderstorms:
Timeline
Showers and thunderstorms started at noon in New York City and New Jersey, the National Weather Service said. Rain will dissipate toward the evening hours on Friday, but will possibly pick back up on Saturday.
Dense fog is also in the forecast for Friday night through Saturday morning, according to the NWS.
Rainfall amounts
Less than a tenth of an inch of rainfall is expected, but higher amounts are possible if thunderstorms hit the area, meteorologists said.
Next chance of rain
After rain clears out by Saturday evening, the next chance for showers in the tri-state area is Tuesday evening. Wednesday and Thursday are both expected to be washouts, according to the NWS.
