NEW DELHI: Several people were held hostage on Saturday in a night club in Ede in the Netherlands.
According to the Dutch police, while three hostages have been released, the hostage situation is still ongoing.
"Three hostages have just been released. The situation is not over yet," police said in a statement on X, formerly Twitter.
The number of people being held is yet to be known but according to local media reports, around four or five people are involved.
"A hostage situation involving several people is underway in a building in the centre" of the town of Ede, police said.
According to the police, there was no indication of a terrorist motive involved in the incident.
"We see there are many questions about the motive. At this time there is no indication of a terrorist motive," police said.
Police added that they had cleared off a cordon around a cafe, with residents of around 150 houses being brought to safety.
The local municipality said on its website that the town centre had been closed off and that riot police and explosives experts were at the scene.
The authorities have also advised the residents of the town to avoid town centre and train traffic was also diverted.
The country has also witnessed terror attacks and plots in its past.
In 2019, the Dutch police charged two jihadists for spraying the tram with bullets which claimed four lives.
