NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) – Newark Liberty International Airport was flooded with puppies Saturday morning.
Some 100 golden retrievers, German shepherds and Labrador retrievers ran through Terminal C as part of service dog training hosted by New Jersey-based nonprofit The Seeing Eye.
The dogs were being trained to accompany blind or visually impaired people through airports, getting used to the sights and sounds of airline travel.
Accompanied by volunteers, the pups were taken through baggage claim, security, gates, the AirTrain and onto a United Airlines plane.
"When you speak to a blind person and that person tells you they can literally see because of that dog, the pain and sacrifice when they come and take the dog after 14 months is a small price to be paid," said John McCabe, one of the puppy raisers.
The adorable event happens every year at Newark Liberty International Airport.
"It really provides the dogs, because they're in the training program, to get that real-world scenario," said Tiffany Chan, manager of airport operations at Newark Liberty International Airport.
