Nicholas Pooran's unbeaten 64-run knock went in vain as Rajasthan Royals (RR) began their campaign with a 20-run win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Earlier, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson began IPL 2024 with a superb 82 not out to help his side post a competitive 193 for four against Lucknow Super Giants in their season-opener on Sunday. Samson hit six sixes and three fours in his 52-ball knock, which included magnificent shots from all over the ground. Samson's knock helped Rajasthan Royals regain momentum and stability following two blows in the Powerplay.

IPL 2024, RR vs LSG: Highlights

Samson was supported by Riyan Parag (43, 29 balls, 1 four, 3 sixes) as the RR duo shared a 93-run partnership for the third wicket to keep their side in the hunt for a mammoth total for their side. While Samson played his shots, Parag appeared composed, seizing every opportunity. Parag was cautious, but his first big hit came in the ninth over, when he smashed Yash Thakur over mid-on for the first six of the over, while Samson struck two more in the final two balls to finish with 21.

Parag received a lifeline on the 29th delivery of his innings when Mohsin Khan dropped him off Ravi Bishnoi. Parag's knock ended in the 15th over when he top-edged Naveen-ul-Haq's delivery to substitute fielder Deepak Hooda at deep square leg. While Shimron Hetmyer was dismissed for 5, Dhruv Jurel played a good cameo of 20 not out, including a six and a four.

Yashasvi Jaiswal began by hitting some appealing boundaries, signaling his intention to lead the Royals' comeback after losing Jos Buttler early in the second over. Buttler managed two fours at first but was eventually dismissed by Naveen-ul-Haq (2/41), who coaxed him into driving a fuller delivery, resulting in an outside edge.

Rahul, who stood behind the wickets in the presence of other wicketkeepers Quinton de Kock and Nicholas Pooran, took a difficult diving catch cleanly. On a surface that appeared to be a little slower at first, Mohsin (1/45) surprised Jaiswal with a quick short ball that the left-handed batter looked to pull but played tamely into mid-on for a 12-ball 24 that included three fours and a six.
