Mehrotra, who is the
SP MLA
from the Lucknow Central seat and the formal India bloc candidate for the seat, had some issues with his nomination papers. This action was taken following a directive by party president
Akhilesh Yadav

Friday marked the deadline for filing papers.
A pediatrician by profession, Verma reached the district election office with SP supporters around 2:30 pm and submitted the papers to district election officer (DEO) Suryapal Gangwar.
Speaking to TOI, the formal SP candidate for the India bloc, Ravidas, said, 'We have been informed by the DEO that there are some issues with the nomination papers which are being resolved. Therefore, as a backup, Dr Ashutosh has been asked by the party administration to file the documents.' 'As of now, my papers have not been rejected, and we are trying to resolve the issues as soon as possible.'"
