How to spot deepfake videos
At a time when deepfake videos are rampant, there are certain things you can keep in mind to spot deepfake videos. For example, look for unnatural movements around the eyes and mouth. Do the lips perfectly match the audio? Do facial expressions seem exaggerated or out of sync? Deepfakes often struggle with these fine details. Check for inconsistencies in lighting and shadows. Does the lighting change abruptly within the video? Do shadows fall strangely around the person's head or hair? Uneven lighting can be a telltale sign in a deepfake video.
Furthermore, listen closely to the sound. Does the voice sound artificially synthesised or slightly off? Does the audio sync perfectly with the lip movements? Deepfakes sometimes miss the mark on audio quality.
Most importantly, consider the content of the video. Does it seem outrageous or out of character for the person involved? Does it align with their known beliefs and values?
