Saarc in trouble due to Pak's support of terror: Jaishankar

1 year ago 25

Even as

Pakistan

prepares to welcome a new govt, the chances of a revival of

Saarc summit

process remain slim as India is unlikely to compromise on its zero-tolerance policy for terrorism.
EAM S

Jaishankar

said Saturday Saarc is in

trouble

beacuse because one of the member continues to undertake violent actions against other members.
India pulled out of the summit process, bringing it to a halt, after the 2016 Uri terror assault on Indian soldiers that was carried out from across the border.

"We have kind of obfuscated this issue for too long. We found excuses that there is a constituency out there, there is a reason for why they are doing it. Bottomline is we have to be clear in our own minds. Is it the view that we should proceed with Saarc even if one Saarc member actually has training camps, trains terrorists, pushes them across, supports them in different ways," Jaishankar said at the Ananta Centre.
