NEW DELHI: Russian authorities on Sunday apprehended and charged three individuals in the North Caucasus republic of Dagestan on grounds of plotting
terror attacks
, more than a week after an assault on the
Crocus City Hall
on the outskirts of Moscow.
The arrests occurred during an operation in
Makhachkala
, the capital of Dagestan, and in the town of Kaspiysk, located approximately 10 kilometers (six miles) to the south, according to the Russian National Anti-Terrorist Committee's statement.
"Three criminals planning to commit a series of terrorist crimes have been arrested," the statement said.
"An automatic weapon and its ammunition, as well as a ready-to-use improvised explosive device, were found during the search of the scene of the arrests," the statement said, adding that the operation had not caused any casualties.
The arrests happen over a week after the assault on Crocus City Hall on the outskirts of Moscow, claiming the lives of at least 144 individuals and injuring 551.
Twelve individuals were apprehended following the concert hall attack, including the four suspected assailants, who hailed from Tajikistan, a former Soviet republic in Central Asia.
On Friday evening, Russian security services additionally disclosed the apprehension of three individuals from a Central Asian country who were allegedly planning a bomb attack in southwestern Russia
