Sri Ramanujacharya Jayanti 2024: Significance
Sri Ramanujacharya Jayanti is celebrated with immense devotion in South India. This day occurs on Panchami Tithi of Shukla Paksha in Vaishakha Month and specially under Thiruvathirai Nakshatra. Ramanujacharya was born in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, in 1017 CE to Asuri Kesava Somayaji and Kanthimathi. Sri Ramanuja Acharya died in 1137 CE at Srirangamin and became one with the Supreme Soul. Prior to becoming recognised as Ramanuja, he was known as Lakshamana. He was a South Indian Brahmin and one of greatest spiritual thinkers in Hinduism. As a Vaishnavite, he was a fervent devotee of Lord Vishnu and devoted his entire life to worshipping him. He became a monk by following the path of bhakti.

Ramanujacharya established centres and arranged temple worship in order to spread the devotion to Lord Vishnu and his consort Shri or Mahalakshmi. He made a significant contribution to the Bhakti movement and the Vaishnavite tradition.
In Kanchipuram, the eminent philosopher Sri Ramanuja Acharya studied Advaita vedanta. His Guru Yadava Prakasa always taught him differently, and eventually he broke away from him to pursue his education independently. Following his graduation, he was ordained as a priest in the Lord Vishnu-focused Vardharaja Perumal Temple.
Sri Ramanujacharya started instructing people, urging them to walk in Bhakti's footsteps, and teaching them the fundamentals of salvation and how to achieve it with God's assistance. Always opposed to prejudice, Ramanuja Acharya rebelled against caste-based discrimination and even assisted the masses in adopting the Bhakti and Vaishnava movements.
