PUNE: The
Pune Congress chief
,
Arvind Shinde
, chose the
tender vote
facility to exercise his electoral franchise after finding that someone had already voted in his name.
When Shinde reached the
voting booth
at
St Mira’s School
in
Rasta Peth
around 11am on Monday, he was shocked to find that someone had already cast the vote in his name. He was finally allowed to vote, but not though
EVM
, but on a
ballot paper
with “Tendered Ballot Paper” written on the back and concealed in an envelope.
Shinde was not alone, two more voters in Kothrud claimed that someone had voted in their names. Rakesh Sharma of Mukundnagar said he took strong objection after finding that someone had voted in his name. “I told them that I would be raising the issue, after which I was allowed to exercise tender voting,” he said.
First-time voter Gautami Pawar from Kothrud said she felt cheated after someone voted in her name. Collector Suhas Diwase told TOIthat voters in the two cases were allowed tender voting. Deputy election officer Minal Kalaskar said the total number of electors exercising the option would be made available on Tuesday.
