PM Modi virtually inaugurates 3 hostels of NIT Karnataka Surathkal

MANGALURU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, officially inaugurated three new

hostels

of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal through

virtual

mode on Tuesday. The hostels, named Brahmagiri and Shiwalik are for boys and Godavari is for girls.
The three hostels have come up at a cost of Rs 132 crore and can accommodate 1,530 students.

Brahmagiri can accommodate 600 boys, Shiwalik can accommodate 500 boys and Godavari can accommodate 430 girls. Addressing the gathering after the inauguration,

PM Modi

said that India is progressing in the field of education and skills. The country has seen the start of several schools and universities in the recent past for quality education, technology development, and research. He also announced that Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned to the Research Centre of Mangalore University.
B Ravi, director of NITK said that the institution offers development, knowledge, and quality education. It is helping to build a strong foundation for the country. “NITK, Surathkal, is in the second place among technical institutions in the country with good campus infrastructure. The campus stresses on education with an aim for development, new research, and eco-friendly initiatives,” he said.
Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel referred to the various developmental activities initiated by PM Modi and thanked him for various infrastructure development works in the district, especially at NITK Surathkal. The event was graced by the virtual presence of Union minister of education and skill development and entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan, governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, and CM Siddaramaiah.
